Are your books available via other book sellers?

Not at this time. I decided that for this initial batch of books I wanted to make books available exclusively on my website so that I could have a hand in all aspects of production. Each book is hand packaged with care, and each shipment includes a 4x4 art print. At this time, Our Place in the Skies is not available for purchase via other outlets. That may change in the future, but I’m taking my time and prioritizing offering these books in a way that feels good to me.

Why did you choose to do that?

By printing in small batches I know what books you’re getting and I’m able to play a meaningful role in sending them to you. To me, book making is a sacred process and I didn’t want to lose sight of that when it came time to make my books available. It’s my hope that in time I’ll find the right collaborations that will allow me to scale this process intentionally. In the meantime, I really loved finding the creators and businesses that helped me make this initial batch of books available.

What makers contributed to your book making process?

The interior of my book was designed by Lewelin Polanco of The Cosmic Lion who I was lucky to find via Blk and Brwn Book Designers. I created the art for the cover of my book and designed the cover alongside my husband Mike Sutjipto. My books are printed by Bookmobile and shipping materials (as well as custom inserts) were supplied, and printed, by Eco Exchange. Our Place in the Skies is printed on recycled paper and shipped using recycled printing materials.

What happens once books sell out?

Once a batch of books is sold out then we’ll go back into production. Books may be made available for pre-order during that time, so check back on the site or sign up for my mailing list to stay posted on upcoming print runs.

Is this version of Our Place in the Skies the same as the PDF you published in 2020?

Yes and no! I made a version of Our Place in the Skies available as a PDF download in the summer of 2020. Since then, I’ve revisited many of the poems, made a bunch of changes, and added about 20 poems that weren’t in that initial edition. This is also a physical book - personally, I prefer physical books and it’s been really meaningful to create my own.

Is Our Place in the Skies available digitally or in hardcover?

Not at this time. I do plan to offer additional versions of Our Place in the Skies in the future and I’m also exploring offering prints of some of my art pieces in the shop as well. Sign up for my mailing list to stay posted on those updates. If you are feeling really excited about a digital or hardcover version of the book (or something else!) feel free to send an email to contact@sarahailemariam.com and I’ll keep that feedback in mind.

I have a question that wasn’t covered here.

Send an email to contact@sarahailemariam.com and I’ll get back to you soon.
