There is so much in the Collective Experience that is categorically unsustainable. And yet as a whole, we tend to favor certainty over the unknown. We cling to what is - because we don’t know what the unknown may bring.

To me, Genius is a neutral thing. It’s not about being better or worse than anyone else; it’s about standing in the fullness of your own self. When Genius, and more specifically when Black Genius, is grown in an environment of white supremacy that becomes a challenging thing to do.

If it’s not love I’m not interested and there is nothing loving about minimizing us into a numbers game.

Grief is often associated with overwhelm. As if to feel one grief, means to feel it all. But we can be relational with our grief. We can learn to give our grief what it needs

Through voices that shake and crack and strengthen, we get to affirm ourselves.

There’s a lot that’s happening in the world that we can understand as illogical. Yet it’s being executed with confidence and bravado and disregard — understand that this too, can be evidence of a trauma response.

Because being “good” and “following orders” and “complying with authority” are too easily interchanged with committing atrocities and with betraying yourself.

What I know is this; white supremacy is not my responsibility. I did not earn it and therefore, I can not end it.

The Soul of America can be found in communion with the land that they named America.

For if we try to tear down and reimagine and rebuild using a foundation of that which we are not - then we will only construct something else that will yet again, call us to remember.

But I have come to the conclusion that the emphasis on educating, and correcting, and healing white people’s relationship to white supremacy is itself an extension of white supremacy.

So much of what I’m now able to offer and receive in community came from really sitting with and getting to know my own medicine first.

I’ve learned so much from being different and feeling misunderstood. Every experience became an opportunity to practice understanding myself - and eventually, the culmination of those experiences became the foundation from which I decided to build a space for myself.

The thing is - worship culture is just another form of dehumanization. It commodifies human beings and robs people of the ability to grow out loud.

For me art has been an instrumental tool of remembering. And it makes sense that it would be - when I step into creating, I step into a portal where I can not only know the Earth but do as the Earth does; birth beauty.
