The Artist Holds

I believe that everybody is an Artist because everybody has the ability to create life. Whether the life we create manifests as a tangible piece of artwork or as a business or as a family or as the decisions that shape an afternoon, that shape a week, that shape a life - together we create the world as it is. We’ve been conditioned to believe that we’re powerless to change the world as it is but I just don’t see it that way. We have the power to hold what hurts; to sit with discomfort until it can become something else. We have the power to choose how we respond to whatever comes up. The power to notice what brings us joy and to do more of it just because it brings us joy. Sure, our choices can contribute to creating more chaos and discord, but they can also create more humanity and compassion. They can create more love and understanding. I believe that our choices add up.

The status quo would prefer that this truth, and the perception of the Artist’s power, continue to be minimized and distorted. But there isn’t an organization today that isn’t fueled by the creative power, and the choices, of the people who work there.

We’re taught to view external forces, institutions, and organizations as integral to what we are capable of creating - as the gate keepers who will decide if we get to be ourselves. But this conditioning keeps us at odds with recognizing the power that we actually hold.

Whatever any organization or institution could offer me, I offer back infinitely more.

Why?

Because I’m tapped into something that’s greater than this world. I’ve built homes in the place where my humanity meets my divinity. And I’m conscious of the fact that every single one of us has access to this place. I’m conscious of the fact that the power of art resides in its ability to help us remember this place. And that power is nothing to minimize.

Why?

Because to remember this place is to remember the life within us and subsequently the life that holds us. And in the presence of that remembrance the status quo no longer holds up.

The Artist holds all the cards - we’ve come so far from these facts but facts they still are.

The Artist holds all the cards

We’ve come so far from these facts

But facts they still are
